Assuring the continuity of IT Services to the Business

Service Assurance is all about assuring the continuity of serviecs to the business. This means monitoring tools to monitor the various aspects of infrastrcuture such as systems health and performance, the databsses and applications running on them and the network infratsructure it runs on. Managing these events can also be a daunting task on large system infrastrcuture so typically an event manager layer is installed to provide a filtering of those events into what is noise and what is important information. Techniques such as event correlation are typically used to determine an event that is the result of several triggers simultaneously, rather than chasing down independant events without understanding the real cause as they may simply be side effects.
